I am a graduate of the Ontario College of Art and Design - Interdisciplinary Studies Program. While there I had the opportunity to experiment with a variety of media. As a result I have become quite skillful and accomplished in many different areas of art making. In addition to painting; I work in video, audio, writing, serigraphy, wood, and whatever else I can get my hands on and head around.
I want my paintings to be an exploration of the human body as a singular work of beauty. I want to create flesh through paint; It's depth, interstices, imperfections, smoothness, roughness, and its desire to be touched. I would like the viewer to be drawn to the subject and have the desire to touch and explore the form. I want the viewer to feel that they are in a very intimate situation; alone with the subject, and free of any distractions from the flesh. Free to explore as they wish.
My love for the human form runs very deep. I try to capture the form in a moment. As in a snapshot, only much deeper. I keep my paintings very intimate by using primarily singular subjects against a limited background giving a sense of close quarters. The viewer is forced to focus on the body and examine it's every detail. I take my inspiration from the paintings of Picasso, Breugel, and De Kooning; as well as film, music, and watching the human race move about in that obliviously blind manner it spends the majority of its time in.
